Specialty Doctors & Specialist Doctors

In August 2021 MSG entered into negotiations with BMA Scotland’s SSASC committee on reform of the 2008 SAS contract.  The other three UK countries had conducted and concluded negotiations for a new contract, with Scotland deciding to have specific discussions for NHSS.

Negotiations concluded in September 2022, and following agreement between all parties circulars were issued on 1^st December 2022 setting out amended terms and conditions and pay for Specialty Doctors and introducing a new Specialist Doctor grade in NHS Scotland.

Talks are now planned which may impact on aspects of the current terms and conditions (see SAS Current Work Streams). 

Charter for SAS Doctors

In 2014 MSG and BMA Scotland agreed a Charter for SAS Doctors aimed at aiding recognition, support and development for this group of doctors.  Following on from the agreement of the new SAS contract for Scottish doctors and dentists in 2022 some minor revisions to the previous Charter to include SAS dentists and reflect some aspects of the new contract have been agreed between MSG and BMA Scotland.  The attached version was signed off at the JNC (Scotland) meeting on 2^nd April.
