RESIDENT DOCTORS* AND DENTISTS IN TRAINING
Unlike Consultants and SAS doctors residence doctors’ terms and conditions are not concentrated into one overall contract. They are located in a range of provisions agreed since 2000. The other UK countries agreed a new contract for this group of doctors in 2016. Scotland did not take part in these negotiations and MSG are now engaged with BMA Scotland on a review of all contractual provision related to resident doctors. All parties to the negotiations share the aim of agreeing a modernised set of contractual arrangements which are fit for purpose both bow and in the future.
* Note: As part of discussions on 2024/25 pay between the Scottish Government and BMA Scotland it was agreed that doctors formerly known as junior doctors would be referred to as resident doctors. This applies to all former junior doctors, not only doctors whoa re in training.
