Following discussions between Scottish Government and BMA Scotland’s Consultant Committee an offer was presented to BMA members. This consisted off a 10.5% pay uplift with a further £5.7m invested to uplift discretionary points from £3204 to £3600 per point.
BMA put this offer out to their members with a recommendation to accept. In the consultative vote, which closed on 4th November 2024, the offer was accepted by 95.8% of those who voted based on a 70.9% turnout.
In addition to the pay talks Scottish Government agreed that there should be discussions in two areas, these being:
– Discussions on the balance of different elements of the job plan to facilitate attractive employment
opportunities within NHS Scotland and enable retention of the existing workforce.
– Discussions to agree a national rate of short terms cover to improve continuity of care and help
alleviate agency and locum spend within NHS Scotland.
These discussion are to be conducted through a task and finish group under the JNC(Scotland) framework and are expected to conclude in 2025/26.
