Discussions in relation to medical pay, terms and conditions take place in a number of fora at national and local level in Scotland. In relation to the discussions at national level MSG forms the management side in any bi-lateral or multi-lateral pay bargaining events.
In national level talks MSG previously engaged with doctors through the relevant BMA Scotland craft committees. In November 2023 this arrangement changed following the introduction of a new Joint Negotiating Committee for Scotland.
The Joint Negotiating Committee (Scotland) provides a Scottish-level negotiating forum between BMA Scotland and the Management Steering Group (representing Scottish Government and NHS Scotland employers) for doctors and dentists employed by NHS Scotland.
JNC (Scotland) will cover career grades, resident grades and, by mutual agreement, General Practitioners employed by NHS Scotland health boards, in order to facilitate discussion and agreement on matters affecting all doctors employed by NHS Scotland.
