Scottish Public Dental Service

The Review of Primary Care Salaried Dental Services in Scotland published in 2005 recommended that the Community Dental Service (CDS) and the General Dental Service (GDS) should combine to form a new Scottish Public Dental Service. The CDS and salaried dentists have a range of different terms and conditions of employment which have evolved to meet the needs of the service in different locations across Scotland.

It was agreed in 2009 that Scottish Government Health Directorates and NHS employers, represented by the Management Steering Group and the British Dental Association should work together to align the terms and conditions of service of existing staff in the two organisations.

Negotiations have now been concluded and agreement has been reached on a common set of terms and conditions of service for dentists working within the new Scottish Public Dental Service. Full details can be found in the following Circular PCS(DD)(2013)5
